Fifteen UCR staff members have completed the first year of the Emerging Leaders Program, and it is time to build a new class for the coming year.

The program is available to full-time career employees at UCR in the classifications professional and support staff grade 7 and exempt through manager and senior professional I.

Participants need the endorsement of a supervisor or department head. Applications should be turned in by Aug. 17.

The one-year intensive training program starts with a two-day retreat and continues with monthly seminars that enhance management and networking skills, especially within the university culture.

With group seminars and high-visibility team projects sponsored by senior administrators, the participants build relationships and have the opportunity for individual career counseling.

Last year’s class finished the year with group presentations and a lunch at the Arroyo Vista Café. Participants for 2008-09 were Alvin Xu, Antonette Toney, Glen Dunzweiler, Isaac Owusu-Frimpong, Jeff Martin, Jerry Garcia, Julie Drouyor, Karen McComb, Kris Lovekin, Laura Lozon, Mark Wilson, Michael Kurth, Robin Ripley, Tina Caroline and Yung Phung.

There is a $700 cost for the program, which can be paid by the participant’s department. For more details and application materials visit the emerging leader site. For more information, contact Sue Anderson or call 2-3145.
