New Staff Assembly President Takes the Reins
Since coming to work at UC Riverside three years ago, Steve Lerer has made the campus his home. Itís that commitment that led him to become involved with the campusí Staff Assembly, an organization that works for the good of UCR staff. In 2010-11 he was elected chair of standing committees.

Three Chosen to Receive Fulbright Fellowships
Three CHASS scholars have been awarded Fulbright fellowships for international study and research in Vietnam, Norway, Nigeria and Ghana in 2011-12. They are Lan Duong, assistant professor of media and cultural studies; Michelle Raheja, associate professor of English; and Karen Wilson, assistant director of the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts.

Working Smarter Initiative Hits First Year Goal
The University of California has created $157 million in systemwide administrative efficiencies over the past year, putting its Working Smarter initiative on track to achieve $500 million in positive fiscal impact over five years. Results of the program were presented at the regents meeting July 14 by Nathan Brostrom, executive vice president for business operations, and Peter Taylor, UCís chief financial officer.
