Commencement Ceremony Changes Venue
This yearís ceremonies will take place on the Pierce Lawn east of the Bell Tower.
UC Riverside's commencement ceremonies are getting a major makeover this year - a new location, additional ceremonies and tickets for guest seating. "What is driving these changes," said Kyle Hoffman, assistant vice chancellor for alumni and constituent relations, "is the growth of the commencement ceremony and the size of the family groups that attend them."

UC Riverside Celebrates 30th Writers Week
The annual event will actually run for two weeks - Feb. 1 through 14.
Creative writing from near and far will be celebrated as an impressive - and diverse - roster of 40 authors, agents, publishers and performance artists gather on campus and in the community to read, wrestle and play with words at the 30th annual Writers Week, which will be held Feb. 1 through 14.

NRC Questionnaire Deadline Approaching
Collection of data by the National Research Council (NRC) for the assessment of research doctoral programs is underway. Questionnaires have been sent to participating programs, with a February 1st deadline to return the questionnaires. Faculty questionnaires have also been sent to eligible faculty within the participating programs. These are due on Feb. 15 and April 1.

Physical Sciences Building Gets New Name
Effective July 1, 2007, Physical Sciences I, located where Big Springs Road meets Campus Drive, will be called the Chemical Sciences Building. The change in name, requested by Steven Angle, dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, was reviewed by the campus naming committee and approved by the academic senate, the executive vice chancellor and provost, and the chancellor.

Campus Responds to Recent Employee Arrest
Longtime UC Riverside employee Theodore Chiu, associate director of the Office of Design and Construction, was arrested Jan. 9 and accused by an FBI investigator of soliciting a bribe from a contractor doing business with UC Riverside.
