Commencement volunteers get to be part of the celebration and a reminder of why their work on campus is important.
Every college student spends his or her college career working toward graduation. As the manifestation of all of their successes, commencement is one of the most important days of a student’s life. Of course, commencement can’t happen without the students, but more importantly, commencement can’t happen without the faculty and staff who get them there – literally.

Civil Rights Monuments Trip Moves UCR Students
A half-century after the Montgomery, Ala., bus boycott inspired the modern civil rights movement, Ethnic Studies Associate Professor Ralph Crowder hoped that touring monuments of the struggle would move UCR students as well. “The vast majority of students here have never been to the Deep South,” Crowder said. “I wanted to expose them to a different geographical background and see the places they were reading about.”

Four University Scholars Chosen
The program aims to promote highly visible research.
Four faculty members have been honored this year with University Scholar awards, bringing to nine the total number of University Scholars on campus. Selected and awarded by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the awards recognize UCR’s rising stars: early-career, tenured faculty of outstanding merit.

Staff Survey to Track New, Exiting Employees
In an effort to improve the UCR workforce environment and better retain staff, the leadership team at UCR has hired Wonderlic Incorporated to conduct automated exit/transfer and new hire survey programs. These programs will complement the staff survey conducted in February 2006.
