Advisory Committee Named to Search for New UCR Leader
University of California President Robert C. Dynes has named a 17-member committee of university regents, faculty, staff, students, alumni and community representatives to advise him in the search for the next permanent chancellor of UCR.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen will discuss “The Idea of Justice” in the 2007-08 UC Riverside Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 in the University Theatre. The theme is “Challenges of a Global Community.”

Getting Benefits in November
UCR employees will have a chance to change their minds about their health and welfare benefits during open enrollment, which occurs from Nov. 1-27. A benefits fair is set for noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the UCR Extension Center.

New Technology Will Help in an Emergency
A new emergency notification system that provides a faster and more accurate method of reaching the campus community is expected to be in place in the next few weeks. The system, purchased from the National Notification Network (3n), is a fairly complex product that has the capability of sending text or voice messages to pagers, cell phones, Blackberries, home phones, work phones and e-mail in case of an emergency.

Diversity Summit Focuses on Graduate Students
How can UCR recruit a more diverse group of graduate students, and once they are here, improve and enhance their overall experience? That is the topic of the Graduate Student Diversity Summit, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 19 at University Extension.
