Nine Recognized as AAAS Fellows
UCR now has 159 faculty members who have been recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has named nine UCR researchers as 2007 AAAS fellows, bringing the total number of campus faculty recognized with this distinction to 159.

Innovative Teachers Honored
Bradley Hyman, professor of biology, and Justin McDaniel, assistant professor of religious studies, are the recipients of the 2007 Teaching Innovation Award. They will lecture on their pedagogical approaches to teaching at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 28 in Bourns 205-206.

Novelist Susan Straight Wins National Fiction Award
The UCR creative writing professor wins the prestigious Lannan Literary Award for Fiction, which includes a $150,000 prize.
Novelist Susan Straight, a professor of creative writing, has won the prestigious Lannan Literary Award for Fiction. The foundation, based in Santa Fe, N.M., established its literary awards and fellowships in 1989 to recognize writers who have contributed significantly to English-language literature. The award carries a $150,000 prize.

CE-CERT Director Matt Barth, College of Engineering Dean Reza Abbaschian and Hao Jiming, dean of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at Tsinghua, sign an agreement between the two universities.
UCR Partners with Universities in China and Japan
The signing of an agreement between Bourns College of Engineering and Tsinghua University in Beijing Oct. 9 signaled a dramatic expansion of the research presence of the College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT).
