Tapping Away for Health and Safety
When you first meet Ross Grayson the word that comes to mind probably won’t be “dancer.” As director of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, the bearded and casually dressed Grayson is very serious about leading his team in their efforts to keep the campus safe from environmental dangers and free of work-related injuries, and to provide guidance on sustainability efforts.

Keogh Named University Scholar
Eamonn Keogh, an associate professor of computer science and engineering who researches data mining, databases and artificial intelligence, has been named a University Scholar this year. Keogh becomes the 10th University Scholar on campus.

Conducting Research in a Laboratory-to-Go
For four to six months a year, the world becomes Mark Hoddle’s office and laboratory. Hoddle, a biological control specialist at UC Riverside, travels the globe to study ravenous bugs that demolish crops, causing major social, economic and agricultural damage.

Committee Recommends Next UC President
The committee conducting the search for the next University of California president is recommending to the Board of Regents that Mark G. Yudof, currently head of the University of Texas system, be appointed to lead the UC system.

2008 Natural Resources Coordinating Conference
Thomas Scott, a natural resource specialist at UCR, gives a lecture, March 5, on preparing for fires. Scott’s presentation was part of the 2008 Natural Resources Coordinating Conference. The two-day conference, which was sponsored by the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, focused on California fires and took place at UCR Palm Desert Graduate Center.

Lifetime Achievement Awards to be Presented to Artist, Author
Acclaimed painter Alfredo Arreguín and author Lauro Flores will receive lifetime achievement awards at the 21st Tomás Rivera Conference at UCR on Thursday, April 24. The theme of the annual conference, which honors the memory of UCR Chancellor Tomás Rivera, is “AméricaViva” (“America Live”).
